Eye symptoms

Lately I've been experiencing some scary eye symptoms. The first time it happened, I was driving down the highway. All of a sudden, in my lower left part of my vision, I started seeing a 'flashing' pattern. But this was an unusual pattern, almost like a propeller of a plane. Or like I was looking into a fan, spinning around. It was a rapid movement, from a dull color to normal and back. If you imagine turning a fan on high, and sitting very close to the blades, that is what it looked like.

It started mild, but quickly starting moving towards the middle of my vision. I didn't know whether I was having some sort of stroke, seizure, or what. I was about to pull over because I didn't want to loose my vision and wreck, but it started to recede. Honestly, if kind of felt like something alive was in my eye, swimming around, and it gave me the eeby-geebies!

It didn't happen again for months, but it's back. I usually see it first thing in the morning. It's not as scary as the first time, because it usually doesn't go to the middle of my vision. It's usually always my right eye, and stays in the bottom left part of my vision.

Needless to say, I am a bit worried as this is NOT normal. I know people suffering from lyme disease are used to ABNORMAL things happening with their bodies from lyme, but this seems different than anything I've experienced. And I think it's getting worse.

Lots of people with Lyme have eye symptoms. Some have gone blind, some wear sunglasses 24/7 due to sensitivity to light. Others have flashes, floaters, and lots of other things going on with their vision. It not something to take lightly.

So, I made an appt with an eye doc. Luckily, through my support group, I found a doctor that did her dissertation on "Lyme Disease and the eyes". So, my guess is that she is well versed in what lyme can do to the eyes and will help me determine if the disease is attacking parts of my eyes. We Lymies do know that the spirochetes love 'soft tissue' that the immune system and antibiotics can't get to...and those places include the brain and the eyes. yuck!

Until then, I deal with constant headaches (not migraines), eye pain, and the occasional 'flashing' in my eyes. My appt is in next month. Wish me luck.

Top 100 Stories of 2011 #90: Chronic Lyme Patients Validated

Patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (in which symptoms persist after antibiotic treatment) have spent decades fending off charges that their debilitating exhaustion and cognitive problems were simply imagined. But a study released last February provides tangible evidence that their conditions are real and distinct entities.

Immunologist Steven Schutzer of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey examined samples of cerebrospinal fluid, the clear liquid
that surrounds the brain and spinal cord, from patients with each syndrome. In identifying the contents of that fluid, he documented different sets of proteins for each group of patients, potential biomarkers that distinguish between the two
conditions and healthy controls. Schutzer revealed the marker proteinsby removing common, unrelated proteins like albumin and immunoglobulin from the spinal fluid before his analysis. “That lets the smaller proteins—the potential biomarkers—not get obscured,” he says. “At least now we know we’re not just speculating about the differences between chronic fatigue syndrome and post-treatment Lyme.”

Babesiosis

This is the 'other' infection I had. Hopefully I don't have it anymore but it can be very very hard to get rid of. I've been off treatment for Babesiosis for a year and haven't relapsed.

Most common symptoms are:

Night Sweats
Air Hunger (asthma type episodes)
Headaches

Remember, this can be passed on congenitally also. Although mainstream docs will tell you it cannot. But we all know better, don't we!
